It's time for Friday home touring with Kelly's Korner again! Well, actually, I'm a little late because I was so wrapped up in Lindsay's heart transplant yesterday, that I couldn't concentrate on anything else! So, this week we are touring home offices. I love having a little office space in which to collect the piles of paper that seem to accumulate so quickly in my home! When we finished our basement last year, we didn't have enough rooms to make an office that would be separate to the rest of the basement. Instead, we created a little "nook" in which a small office could be set up. As it turns out, it is one of my favorite parts about the basement!
I still have work (meaning decorating work!) to do in the office. I'd like to add curtains, recover the desk chair and maybe even paint the walls! I'm thinking of doing a pale sage/celery green, but I'm a bit nervous about it. I just saw a really cute office on this tour with green walls and black furniture, so I probably just need to go for it!
So here is my little work-in-progress office "nook"...

File cabinets and shelving
I got everything in this office from Ballard Designs. It was my first time to purchase actual furniture from them and I have to say that I've been very happy with it!
I love using my "napkin holder" to hold stationary and the "bathroom canister" that sits beside it to hold address labels and stamps!
I really love these decorative photo displays... I display all kinds of things on them!

We also have a little desk right beside our back door that is used very well, meaning that it is the drop off spot for everything from the mail to purses to shoes... you name it, it lands here! Which means I needed a LOT of containers to try to hide/organize all the stuff that accumulates here!
My diaper bag/purse is always sitting next to it!
Here are a few of those "containers" that semi-hide the gazillions of papers and other paraphernalia that accumulates here! The tray in the corner is made of metal and therefore, magnetic. It makes a nice, non-traditional, "message" center!
This is the back door that is next to the desk. I used some more of those decorative photo displays on the back door to hold birth announcements, invitations, and other things that I don't want to forget. As I walk out the door, it reminds me to RSVP to events, buy gifts, and the dates of certain occasions. It really has been very effective, except for this past week. I actually forgot about a birthday party that my son was invited to! I felt like such a terrible mommy - he was brokenhearted! So now, I do a "once over" the door almost daily to make sure I am not forgetting anything important!

That's it for my office/desk areas! Go check out the other links at Kelly's Blog... it's fun (and a tad bit addicting!)
Happy Home Touring!
